Employee Celebrates 50 Years of Service at Puritan Cleaners

Dickson has helped company navigate changing technology, culture

RICHMOND, Va. — On Oct. 1, one of Puritan Cleaners’ team members celebrated a rare milestone in today’s world — 50 years of service at the same company.

Dickson first joined Puritan as a customer service representative, but soon moved behind the scenes, working into a leadership position and taking courses at the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute (DLI), along with “earning numerous awards throughout her career for her dedication to both people and quality,” the company said in its release.

Dickson is currently the company’s production mentor, overseeing garment care at Puritan, as well as fostering a culture of growth and care. “Barbara has not only overseen the meticulous handling of thousands of garments,” the company states, “but has also nurtured the development of her colleagues, creating a supportive environment where everyone thrives.”

When asked about her favorite experience over the past five decades, Dickson says it has been “working with so many wonderful people.” The progress Dickson has witnessed has been a defining theme, the company says, rom advancements in equipment and technology to the strengthening of relationships within her team.

Dickson says she takes pride in how her team has scaled the attention to detail she values so deeply. Of all the items she’s cared for, she has found that heirloom quilts and one-of-a-kind pieces with sentimental value hold a special place in her heart. “It’s an honor to be so trusted,” Dickson says, “and a blessing to see the joy we can bring to our clients.”
