In Memoriam: Joseph M. Scalco, Husband to DLI CEO Mary Scalco

STEVENSVILLE, Md. — Joseph Michael Scalco, husband to Drycleaning & Laundry Institute CEO Mary Scalco, died Nov. 14 at the age of 58.

Born May 8, 1957, he earned his bachelor of science in marketing degree from the University of Maryland College Park in 1980 after having graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in 1975.

He was a financial adviser in the Annapolis office of Transamerica Financial Advisors, and an avid sports fan, particularly concerning the University of Maryland Terrapins and Washington Redskins.

Scalco supported the Special Olympics of Maryland, the Queen Anne’s County Chamber of Commerce, the Maryland University Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund and the University of Maryland Alumni Association.

Surviving him are his wife of 31 years, Mary; son, Joseph Jr.; daughter, Alex; brothers, John, Steve, Roy, Bobby and Michael; and sisters, Dora and Teresa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty, and a brother, Nicky.

Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Nov. 19, at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, Md.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Scalco’s memory may be sent to Special Olympics Upper Shore.
