NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Solvair LLC was awarded the 2010 Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award for its Solvair Cleaning System technology. The award was presented at the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center’s (ISTC) 27th Annual Award Ceremony in Champaign, Ill., last month. The ISTC award honors organizations for significant achievements in protecting the environment, helping sustain the future and improving the economy. A record number of companies were considered this year.
“These businesses and organizations have shown that it is possible to create and maintain conditions under which people and the environment can exist in productive harmony, and fulfill the social and economic requirements of present and future generations,” says ISTC Director Manohar Kulkarni.
The Solvair technology won the award based on a thorough evaluation of the overall system design, and its environmentally responsible features. The honor also recognizes the innovative research, business practices and initiatives of Solvair and its 134-year-old sister company, R. R. Street & Co. Inc., in serving the drycleaning industry.
“Your organization’s commendable green practices serve as a model of environmental stewardship for residents, businesses, and institutions throughout our state,” writes Illinois Governor Pat Quinn in a congratulatory letter to Solvair.
“We are extremely proud to have been recognized for our commitment to innovation and to the application of environmentally conscious technologies that affect everyday consumers’ lives, not only in the state of Illinois, but in the country as a whole,” says L. Ross Beard, CEO of Solvair LLC and R. R. Street & Co. Inc. “For the drycleaning industry, this signifies another important step in choosing a clear front-runner in the competition for cleaning technologies for the future. We believe the recognition of the Solvair Cleaning System by a growing number of progressive states like Illinois will enhance the positive response of consumers, property owners, regulators and lending institutions.”
