BERKLEY, Mich. — When TV star Ty Pennington gave his trademark direction to “Move that bus” to reveal a newly-built home one recent afternoon, it represented a fresh start for a wounded soldier and his new bride, compliments of ABC-TV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The weeklong project in Salado, Texas, also marked the completion of the 100th episode of the show for the Certified Restoration Drycleaning Network (CRDN).
“We are extremely proud of the opportunity to help provide a fresh start to so many deserving families and make their new houses feel like their homes,” says Chip Bifano, president of CRDN. “These are amazing projects that require meticulous coordination of resources and volunteers to accomplish so much in such a short time.”
CRDN has now participated in five seasons of the show, in 40 states coast-to-coast. Its nationwide network and commitment to helping families recover from fires, floods and other disasters helped make the organization a natural fit for the Emmy Award-winning show, the company says, which is now in its eighth season.
“As a part of each local community, we take very seriously our role in helping homeowners recover, and contributing to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition enables us to perform the meaningful service that we do on a daily basis for families in need,” Bifano says.
Out of the hundreds of companies that support Extreme Makeover: Home Edition projects, CRDN is the only one that doesn’t focus on building construction or renovation. Instead, CRDN cleans each family’s clothing and fabric items and delivers them to the new home before the family returns.
“What allows Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to touch the lives of families time after time is the attention to detail that our partners provide,” says Diane Korman, senior producer for the show. “You can’t pick your family, but you can decide who you choose to do business with. Without the dedication and professionalism of CRDN, we would only be building the houses; instead, they help us build homes.”Extreme Makeover: Home Edition airs Sunday nights on ABC at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
