ORANGE, Conn. — According to wedding experts, numerous ceremonies postponed in 2020 because of the pandemic will be taking place in 2021. In fact, many believe there will be up to 40% more weddings this year than in a typical year.
For dry cleaners looking to ways to increase their services, wedding gown preservation could become a valuable service. To facilitate this, the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists (AWGS) is discounting its membership fee.
“It’s a tough time to be a dry cleaner,” says Kermit Engh, president of the AWGS, “but it’s a great time to be a certified wedding gown specialist.”
Through June 30, 2021, the AWGS is reducing its membership fee by 75%, which includes opportunities for advertising on top wedding websites, use of the AWGS logos, special training in wedding gown restoration, networking opportunities and more.
“For many of our members,” says Engh, “the income from wedding gown care helps make it possible to keep their doors open. We want to help cleaners in areas where we do not have members learn how to specialize in gown care and gown care marketing. Cleaners who join us not only set themselves apart from ordinary cleaners but also greatly increase profits, and we can afford to reduce our membership fee drastically because we are a not-for-profit trade association with members in six countries.”
