LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Tuchman Advisory Group (TAG) recently toured Highland Cleaners here, reports TAG President Ellen Tuchman Rothmann, with highlights including seeing reclaimed wood floors from a barn, water-permeable pavers, flat rooftop solar screens, and a rainwater harvesting system.
“We went to Highland Cleaners’ central plant and main plant offices, and a drop store that is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified green building owned and developed by Michael Jones,” she says.
“The Tuchman Advisory Group meetings are always helpful and thought-provoking for Anne and myself, but there is nothing like hosting,” says Jones, who owns Highland Cleaners.
TAG members extended their visit in Louisville for some sightseeing.
“Our hosts arranged (for us to attend) horse racing at Churchill Downs, tours at Three Chimneys Horse Farm, Ashford Stud Horse Farm and Woodford Reserve Bourbon Distillery,” says Rothmann. “It was especially exciting to have our photo taken with a true celebrity, American Pharoah!”
Also as part of the “Fly-In” visit, TAG members toured United Parcel Service’s airline and air cargo service facility based in Louisville.
Rick Herndon, vice president of sales & marketing for Stry-Lenkoff Co., was guest speaker, presenting More Than Just a Tag Company.
“Our meeting also included critique of host dry cleaner stores, presentations by each member company, in-depth financial analysis, and open discussion,” Rothmann says.
“When you have 20 of the best in our industry descend on your operation and dissect every aspect of it, you get incredibly detailed and useful feedback,” says Jones. “We learned so much. It will make us a better operation.”
