Toys Collected, Delivered by MW Cleaners

Drive benefits Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program

HOUSTON — MW Cleaners recently organized its second annual MW Cares Toy Drive to benefit the Houston Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, the business reports. Toys collected throughout November were delivered to the Salvation Army on Dec. 8.

The MW Cleaners team not only delivered the toys, but as a thank-you, also treated the Salvation Army volunteers to a special breakfast cooked by MW’s executives.

“The Salvation Army is one of the oldest charitable organizations in our country,” says Mike Nesbit, president of MW Cleaners. “They offer so many programs to help those less fortunate and have a strong commitment to our communities.”

The Salvation Army’s Harbor Light Choir was also on hand to provide holiday cheer through music.

MW Cleaners started its MW Cares Toy Drive for Angels Nov. 1. Customers picked up “Angels” with toy suggestions on them at the 36 Houston area MW Cleaners, the company says. Families in need signed up for assistance in October. To qualify, the family had to meet federal minimum poverty guidelines.

Children up to age 12 were given an assigned Angel tag with their age, gender, size, and gift request.

The Salvation Army depends on the generosity of individual donors, organizations and companies such as MW Cleaners to fulfill these requests.

“As the ‘neighborhood dry cleaner,’ we depend on the support of our local communities,” Nesbit says. “We believe that means we have a corporate responsibility to give back to the people in those areas, whether they are our customers or not.”
