MONTICELLO, Wis. — Aided by the Department of Commerce’s antidumping order against Chinese producers and related tariffs, Shanti Industries reopened its Wisconsin plant last month to produce hangers for distribution partner Laidlaw.
Local residents are happy that jobs are returning to the area. “This community really needs jobs like this, so the more we get in here, the better,” returning staffer Amy Loeffel told Madison’s CBS affiliate, WISC-TV. “It’s just good to be back.”
At peak production, Shanti employed 65. The factory now has 14 full-time workers and expects to add 20 staffers and a second shift. The company’s products are available to Laidlaw customers in the Midwest.
