TULUM, Mexico — The sun set Sunday on another Brainstorming & The Five Stars Conference during which dry cleaners from the United States, Canada and the Bahamas came together to network, to hear from consultants and authors on topics such as time management and marketing, and, of course, to enjoy everything that an all-inclusive tropical resort has to offer.
The event is organized annually by the National Cleaners Association (NCA) and the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute (DLI).
Secrets Resort Akumal, about an hour south of Cancun, hosted the group that booked around 100 rooms and represented some 85 different drycleaning plants.
The conference started Thursday evening with a Welcome Cocktail Party and ran until lunchtime Sunday, when the final educational session ended.
Events were scheduled so that attendees could take in an educational session each morning, then have each afternoon and evening free to explore, dine, drink and enjoy the sandy beaches and ocean breezes.
The opening speaker was Rory Vaden, Southwestern Consulting, who gave dry cleaners permission to Procrastinate on Purpose: Simple Steps to Free You to Do Your Best Work on Time and Without Stress.
On Saturday, Jacob Berger, a professor of marketing at the University of Pennsylvania, discussed Contagious: Why Things Catch On.
Drawing the event to a close was Amanda Johns Vaden, also with Southwestern Consulting, who gave dry cleaners some pointers on Marketing to Millennials, GenXers & Boomers.
Among leisure activities made available to attendees during the weekend were a golf outing, a catamaran sail and a wine tasting.
