WASHINGTON, D.C. — Judge Judith Bartnoff denied a request for reconsideration of her verdict from Roy Pearson, the plaintiff in the lost-pants lawsuit against Washington, D.C.’s Custom Cleaners. Bartnoff’s verdict refuted Pearson’s $54 million claim and also charged him the defendants’ legal fees.
“The plaintiff’s motion for reconsideration reargues matters that already were presented in his pretrial statement, his trial brief and his arguments at trial,” Bartnoff’s Monday denial says. “The plaintiff has not presented any new argument or authority that warrants reconsideration of the Court’s prior rulings.”
In the request, Pearson notes that he and defendant Soo Chung presented different versions of the events affecting his pants, attempting to challenge her testimony. However, the ruling released Monday says that Pearson had the opportunity to address these inconsistencies at trial, but he chose not to cross-examine her.
Chris Manning, the attorney representing the Chungs, expects Pearson to file appeals to the Monday ruling, the original verdict and the defendants’ motion to recover court costs. The Chungs have spent more than $100,000 defending themselves in the ongoing case.
