M&B’s Pink Hangers Net $8,370 to Help Fight Breast Cancer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — M&B Hangers recently presented the American Cancer Society with a check for $8,370, representing donations from sales of pink hangers for the months of October, November and December 2010.
M&B launched the pink hangers campaign in October to help its customers contribute to cancer research. Distributors purchase the pink wire hangers, which feature special capes carrying inspirational phrases, for a small extra fee; M&B then matches the donations dollar-for-dollar.
“We are proud our industry could make a difference,” says company president Milton Magnus. “With the pink hangers, we came up with a program that would cost the individual drycleaner a very small amount, but could make a huge difference in the fight against cancer.”
M&B now plans to continue its efforts long past Breast Cancer Awareness month. The fundraising goal for 2011 is $30,000, and the company believes it can reach that benchmark with everyone’s support.
Two women featured in the pink hangers campaign attended the special event—Pat Washington, who has been fighting cancer since 2007, and Rachel Ragland, a breast cancer survivor since 1993. Kate Kelley, of the Mid-South Division of the American Cancer Society, accepted the check.
