Lapels’ Annual Clothing Donation Weighs in at Nearly 5 Tons

HANOVER, Mass. — This year’s clothing donation from Lapels Drycleaning customers to Big Brothers Big Sisters weighed in at nearly 5 tons, the company reports.

Customers visiting 30 Lapels locations across the country between April 5 and April 19 donated the clothing that Big Brothers Big Sisters will now resell at its thrift shops to help fund its programs.

“Our customers are the best. I say it all the time, but once a year during our drive for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lapels Dry Cleaning customers prove it and then some,” says Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels.

The two-week drive eclipsed last year’s 4-ton clothing donation thanks in part to the additions of Lapels stores in three states—750 pounds came from Louisiana, 345 pounds from Connecticut and 276 pounds from Missouri.

“What was very encouraging was the level of participation in Louisiana, Connecticut and Missouri,” Dubois says. “This is the first year we have had stores from these states participate, and their customers stepped right up.”

Lapels’ Massachusetts stores collected the biggest share, 6,118 pounds. Other donations came from New Jersey (971 pounds), Rhode Island (600 pounds) and Arizona (420 pounds).
