‘The Jeffersons’ Star Gibbs Supports Dry Cleaners

‘Florence’ partners with Cleaner’s Supply in new social media campaign

CONKLIN, N.Y. — With the COVID-19 pandemic having drastically slowed, or even shuttered, many businesses, including dry cleaners, Cleaner’s Supply recently launched a “Support Your Local Dry Cleaner” social media campaign.

Marla Gibbs, who portrayed wisecracking housekeeper Florence Johnston on the 1970s CBS sitcom The Jeffersons, is featured in the campaign. The show ran for 11 seasons and featured Sherman Hemsley as a New York City drycleaning business owner.

“A beloved character to so many, (Marla) helps bring greater awareness about supporting your local dry cleaners,” Cleaner’s Supply says. “These posts have been widely shared on social media by dry cleaners and consumers alike.”

The series of engaging images and videos, posted over multiple social media platforms, is intended to bring visibility to often overlooked drycleaning and laundry small businesses.

Many dry cleaners and laundries have been in the same family for generations, the supplier says. By informing customers that most remained open as essential businesses, often with free pickup and delivery service or quick and safe store drop-off, Cleaner’s Supply says the campaign has “generated valuable traction and feedback for these local businesses.”

Gibb’s post, plus other “Support Your Local Dry Cleaner” posts, can be found on the Cleaner’s Supply Facebook page.
