NEW YORK, N.Y. — Sherman Hemsley, famous for portraying drycleaner George Jefferson in the long-running ’70s sitcom The Jeffersons, returned to the small screen last week to try his hand at the job on the reality TV show Back to The Grind.
The TV Land series challenges former TV stars to work the jobs their most iconic characters held on shows such as The Jeffersons, CHiPs and St. Elsewhere.
"Back to The Grind blends popular TV personalities with fun, real-life situations inspired by the plotlines of some of the best-loved TV shows ever made,” says Sal Maniaci, TV Land’s senior vice president of development and production.
Aired July 25, Hemsley’s appearance on Back to The Grind shows him sweating it out at a real drycleaning plant — taking orders, ironing, pressing and delivering orders in the company van. “I never knew anything about drycleaning,” he tells a customer who recognizes him from his role on The Jeffersons. “I’m learning it all today.”
New episodes air weekly on Wednesdays at 10:30 Eastern. Next up is Betty White, who will revisit her role as Sue Ann Nivens from The Mary Tyler Moore Show and attempt to host a television cooking show. To view sample clips of Back to The Grind, click here.
