NEW YORK, N.Y. — Denworth Davidson, the triggerman convicted in the murder of Red Cap Valet operator Bruce Levy, was sentenced to life without parole last week in a Queens court.
“A lot of people’s lives were destroyed here,” Queens Supreme Court Justice Robert Hanophy told Davidson in issuing the maximum sentence.
Davidson was convicted of the murder and three additional counts connected with a 2004 robbery attempt — an inside job involving current and former Red Cap Valet employees. Davidson followed Levy to Red Cap and tried to steal a bag containing $10,000 in payroll cash; when Levy struggled, Davidson shot him in the arm and throat.
“I hope that all of those affected by this tragic incident can find some degree of solace in today’s sentence and in the knowledge that the defendant will spend the rest of his life behind bars as punishment for his actions,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement.
Former Red Cap employee Jerome Fletcher was sentenced to 29 years to life in 2006 for masterminding the robbery with girlfriend and Red Cap staffer Davia Gabriel. Gabriel pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and has been released after two years in prison; accomplices Stacey Whittaker and Mozart Findlay pleaded guilty to lesser charges and are awaiting sentencing.
