A Massachusetts drycleaner donated $6,000 to the inaugural season of the local high school’s swim team last month. Peter Fontanini, a 1954 graduate of Mansfield High and operator of the Mansfield Fabric Care Center in Mansfield, Mass., told the Mansfield News that team is “great for the kids” and an option he didn’t have as a youth.
The MHS swim team has enjoyed excellent support from local citizens, with Fontanini’s check expected to cover up to one-half of the year’s expenses; other businesses leaders have also donated. Kids on the team have raised nearly $5,000 themselves by collecting donations on the street, selling coffee and donuts on Election Day, and selling candy bars door-to-door, but first-season expenses are outrunning estimates. School superintendent John Moretti told the Mansfield News that the donation was “a wonderful act during this season of giving.”
