Clean: Still the Place to Strike a Deal

NEW ORLEANS — Get the industry’s movers, shakers and up-and-comers together in one place, and what do you get? Buyouts, partnerships, splits and career shifts. Two were confirmed yesterday at Clean ’09 in New Orleans.
First, John Tipps, longtime operator of Clean Concepts in Dallas, a longtime distributor, plant developer and consultant, said he plans to retire from the supply business to concentrate on a retail restoration-services company.
Moore Services, a full-line distributor based in Solon, Ohio, will assume control of part or all of Clean Concepts’ exclusive distributorship of Fimas tensioning finishing equipment in the U.S., Tipps said. Details of the agreement are still being worked out.
Moore is well positioned to market the Fimas line. A longtime proponent of integrating wetcleaning processes into drycleaning plants, operator Jerry Moore helped outfit American Drycleaner’s most recent Plant Design Award-winner, D.O. Summers in Hudson, Ohio.
Separately, Squibco Solutions’ Jeff Berkowitz announced that the company has inked a deal with GreenEarth Cleaning to use its silicon-based solvent in its portable drapery and window-treatment cleaning system.
Many municipalities in the U.S. are demanding “greener” options beyond Squibco’s regular hydrocarbon cleaning system, he said, and now drycleaners will be able to choose the solvent that suits their customers and areas best.
